Ceiling fans are a must for us in any project. We use them year-round and find them to be our personal favorite in bedrooms. Throughout the years their design has come a long way, and now you can find ceiling fans that fit any design style.
Hunter Fan Company is the brand that we have always used and prefer for our homes. It's a great combination of quality and affordability. They are whisper quiet- I often forget that they are on! As many of you know our oldest is named Hunter, so she thinks it's neat to have her name on her ceiling fan.
There is a total of six ceiling fans installed in the Mad County Build. We have one in each of our five bedrooms and one in the upstairs loft.
In the owner's suite we chose the Loki style with the Noble Bronze finish. The bronze color pairs really well with our mostly black fixtures throughout the house. The blades have a finish on each side, allowing you to choose what will work best with your decor tones. We picked the barnwood finish and is looks incredible with our custom barnwood headboard. It's definitely a rustic look, and we will finish this space with some modern touches.
When it came to the upstairs loft, we didn't need light since we had installed so many recessed lights and there is plenty of natural light from the windows. The Dempsey low profile without a light is great for this area and will be especially useful to circulate heat from the wood stove this winter. A little tip I will point out is the fan has a way to hook it to the ceiling plate while you're installing. We've talked to people before who struggled because they were trying to hold the fan with one hand and install with the other. It's not that difficult at all to do it yourself!
The rest of our bedrooms are on the second floor. We really loved the look of the Dempsey low profile fans, and picked a lighted option for 3 of the bedrooms. This is for the girls' rooms and our guest suite. It has reversible blades as you can see from the photos. Paul picked Blonde Oak and I picked white... I should have let him decide! I prefer the blonde oak so we will be changing the other two fans soon. Thankfully it's an easy process and won't take more than a few minutes.
Remington wanted a "cool" fan so we went with the Minimus Low Profile. We opted to use the included remote for his fan, and he thinks it's pretty awesome being able to turn it on and off from his bed! The American Walnut coloring on the blades add a lot of warmth to his room- I can't wait to see the rest of this space come together. With his and the girls' rooms we are designing spaces that help them transition from little kid to big kid decor.
Here are the styles we used:
Loki in the owner's suite
Dempsey without a light in the loft
Dempsey with a light in three bedrooms
Minimus in a bedroom
All of the fan options came with reversible blades (yay for choices!), balancing kits, and remotes. We didn't need the balancing kits because they installed level and wobble free. There are a lot of other details included in the install video on our YouTube channel. Our goal was to make it thorough enough so that you could do this yourself the next time you're installing lighting. We feel this is a great DIY project that will bring functionality and design to your space.
I was impressed with the selection Hunter Fan Company offers, and how they are mindful of different sized spaces. They have fans that will work in very small spaces up to large open areas. There are indoor and outdoor options too! You can easily search by the room type, color, size, etc. I loved looking at all of the different styles. The Hepburn and Pacer are two that caught my eye... you might see them someday in another project!
