This series will go through our embarkment on a standard build barndomium plan, essentially a scaled-down version of our personal home. Designed for friends seeking a cozier space, it measures 36 by 39 feet, boasting two stories and 18-foot sidewalls. It's a charming reflection of our own residence, featuring a main-floor master, two upstairs bedrooms, and a spacious 24 by 32 two-car garage. What makes it special is the continuity in design – from the porch to the stone work under the A-frame front door, and even the kitchen placement.
Having lived in our current home for over a year, we've come to appreciate its functionality and family-friendly design. The new build, while more modest at around 2300 square feet, preserves a fantastic layout. However, the aesthetic takes a different turn, embracing darker and richer colors to align with the homeowner's moodier style.
The site preparation, completed this summer, involved substantial bulldozer work to level the land. Nestled within a family farm, the build site not only offers stunning views but also signifies the homeowners' journey in establishing a homestead. It's a narrative we're eager to unfold and share with you all.
Now, let's delve into the virtual walk-through. In this walk-through, you'll notice echoes of our personal home – the living and dining room arrangement, the kitchen's strategic placement, and a walk-in pantry (though not visible in the video). The primary suite, located on the main floor, boasts a standalone tub and shower. The great room stands out with its 18-foot ceilings, complemented by a loft for a cozy family room area. Upstairs, two bedrooms offer ample space and well-designed closets.
Externally, the aesthetic takes shape with a black roof, windows, and garage doors, paired with an Alamo white exterior metal color. Considering staining the porch posts to complement the stonework adds an intriguing touch to the design.
What makes this build even more exciting is our commitment to sharing cost breakdowns at each phase. Recognizing the interest many viewers have in these details, we'll ensure transparency throughout the entire process.
Reflecting on our current home, we've been contemplating a few changes. For instance, we're reworking the fireplace's location, opting for an interior wall setup similar to the new build. Embracing change and adapting our original design to better suit our needs is an exciting part of this journey.
