Mad County Build | Mirror Frames with Kreg Pocket Tool

Welcome back to Marshall Remodel! Today, we're diving into a hands-on project that's sure to elevate the style of our bathroom – framing some frameless mirrors. But we're not just slapping on any old frame; we're crafting custom frames using the rustic charm of barn wood.

DIY bathroom Mirror

Preparing for the Project:

To kick things off, we need to gather our materials. We'll be using barn wood, a miter saw, sandpaper, wood glue, screws, and our trusty Kreg Tools pocket hole jigs. With everything set, it's time to get to work!

Crafting Custom Frames:

With our barn wood ready to go, we'll start by cutting it down to the perfect dimensions. We're aiming for frames that will complement our 36 by 30-inch mirrors. Each piece is carefully measured and cut to ensure a precise fit.

For the sake of this project, we'll be building three frames, although we'll break it down and demonstrate the process with one frame first before time-lapsing the construction of the other two. After cutting the pieces to size, we'll use a miter saw to create clean and precise mitered corners, adding a touch of sophistication to our frames.

Recessed Mirrors and Grooving:

How to create the coolest framed mirror

In addition to mitered corners, we'll also be cutting a pocket for the mirror to fit snugly into, adding depth and visual interest to the final look. We'll ensure that the mirror sits one inch recessed into the frame, creating a seamless and polished appearance.

To achieve this, we'll groove the frame pieces using a dado set on the table saw. This process allows the mirror to sit securely within the frame, rather than simply notching it out, ensuring stability and durability.

Utilizing the Kreg Pocket Hole Jig:

Recessed Mirrors

Enter our trusty Kreg Pocket Hole Jig. This handy tool is essential for securing our frame pieces together with strength and precision. We'll walk you through the process, showcasing the different pocket hole jigs available and how they're used.

We'll demonstrate how to set up the jig and drill pocket holes strategically along the edges of the frame pieces. By using pocket screws, we'll ensure that our frames are sturdy and durable, capable of withstanding the test of time.

Adding the Finishing Touches:

With all the pieces cut, grooved, and drilled, it's time to bring our frames together. We'll assemble them using pocket screws, ensuring a sturdy and durable finish. Plus, we'll share a little trick for adding extra reinforcement to the top and bottom edges.

To further enhance the aesthetic appeal of our frames, we'll consider the option of using finished wood outside of barn wood. While barn wood adds rustic charm, finished wood may offer a more polished look, depending on personal preference.

How to hang a mirror in your bathroom

Hanging Up Our Masterpieces:

Once our frames are assembled and the mirrors are securely in place, it's time to hang them up in the bathroom. We'll locate the studs, attach hooks, and step back to admire our handiwork.

Conclusion:

And there you have it – custom mirror frames crafted with care and attention to detail. By combining the warmth of barn wood with the precision of the Kreg Pocket Hole Jig, we've created stunning focal points for our bathroom. We hope you enjoyed following along with this project. Stay tuned for more from Marshall Remodel, where we'll continue to share tips, tricks, and inspiration for your next home improvement endeavor. Until next time, happy remodeling!
