Garage Door Install Springs | Part 2

Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog! Today, we're diving into part 2 of our garage door installation journey. In this segment, I'll walk you through installing the springs and all the necessary hardware while ensuring safety every step of the way.

First things first, let's organize all the gear spread out on the table. Identifying which springs and drums go where is crucial. It might seem straightforward, but there's a little trick to it. Even though a spring might have "LW" for left wind, it could actually go on the right side, marked with black paint. Remember, garage springs are usually color-coded for a reason.

Now, onto the installation. We start by securing the plates in place. Bolt them to the wall and then to the top track. It's all about making sure everything is snug and level before moving on.

Next up, we tackle the springs. With the right springs in place, along with the center bearing and plastic bushings, we bolt everything together. This ensures a solid foundation for the door's operation.

Once all the components are in place, it's time to lift the assembly into position. This can be a bit tricky, but with a little maneuvering, we get it done.

Now, onto winding the springs. This part requires precision and caution. Using the right tools and following the manufacturer's instructions, we wind the springs to the specified tension, ensuring smooth operation.

Safety is paramount throughout this process. From securing the vise grips to staying clear of the springs' path, every precaution is taken to prevent accidents.

With everything in place and tensioned properly, we test the door to ensure it opens smoothly. A final check of the rollers and hinges confirms that everything is in working order.

So, that wraps up part 2 of our garage door installation series. In the next installment, I'll show you how to add the finishing touches with additional hardware. And hey, I'd love to hear your thoughts on which type of garage door opener I should go with—jack shaft or conventional? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for tuning in, and I'll catch you on the next post!
